Sky and Gravity

If we studied all the Quranic verses that speak regarding the sky, we would find that the information is exactly what we see today concerning the wide universe. What does this prove? Let us read ….

Allah (SWT) says: “And among his signs is that the heaven and the earth stand by his command. Then afterwards when He will call you by a single call, behold, you will come out from the earth” [Ar-Rum:25]. There is a strong sign about gravity in this verse; however gravity was discovered in the twentieth century. The Gravitational force helps connect the universe’s components so they will not be detached or shattered. In 1912, Inestine gave scientific explanation to the secret of the universe’s bond through gravity waves.

However, the Quran spoke regarding this secret fourteen centuries ago. Allah (SWT) says: “the heaven and the earth stand by his command”. The gravitational force is among Allah’s creations, it works by His command. The heaven and the earth and all of the universe’s components couldn’t maintain functioning and bonding without this force which is a command from Allah almighty.

In this picture, we see “The Eagle Nebula” which is a young open cluster of stars and clouds made from gas and dust. It is a fine construction. At the center of the picture, we can see what the scientists named “Pillars of Creation”. Scientists address pillars of gravity that can’t be seen, we remember Allah’s (SWT) saying: “Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that you can see.” [Ar-Rad:2]

There are many verses that indicate the authenticity of universal gravity, and that the stars could not link to each other without the gravitational force. However, non-Muslim scientists believe that the gravitational force is found by chance. On the other hand, the Quran talks about Allah’s almighty power and control over the gravitational force to hold these stars. He, The Greatest says: “Verily, Allah grasps the heavens and the earth lest they should move away from their places and if they were to move away from their places, there is not one that could grasp them after him. Truly, He is Ever Most Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving” [Fatir: 41].

Moreover, in their research, scientists speak regarding “giant universal buildings” which are consisted of galaxies. The Quran, however, talked regarding these buildings before the scientists and called them “Zodiac.” Allah Almighty said “It is We Who have set out the Zodiacal signs in the heavens, and made them fair-seeming to (all) beholders.” [Al-Hijr: 16]… there are tens of verses that agree with what the scientists see today via telescope.

We say to those who suspect the final message (Al-Islam): how could the illiterate prophet Muhamed (peace be upon him) provide such accurate descriptions regarding the universe similar to what we know today? These verses are reliable evidence that the prophet was sent from Allah almighty, and that every word mentioned in the Quran is the truth from Allah (SWT). He the greatest says: “And they ask you (O Muhamed (peace be upon him)) to inform them (saying): “is it true (i.e. the torment and the establishment of the hour-the Day of Resurrection)?” Yes! By my Lord! It is the very truth! And you cannot escape it!” [Yunus:53].

Note:

One brother (may Allah reward him) reminded us that the gravity is an Islamic not western discovery! We can see that clearly from Al-Baghdadi’s (lived in Bagdad 11th-12th centuries) speech who talked about laws concerning free falling objects. He held that when a body starts falling, a residue of aggressive preference still subsists in it and opposes the natural inclination (gravity) that causes the body to descend slowing down its fall. The increase of velocity of the fall is due to the gradual weakening of the aggressive inclination.

This clearly shows that Al-Baghdadi spoke of the effect of gravity. Other Muslim scientists also talked about gravity, such as Al-Khazin in his book “Balance of Wisdom.“ This proves that Muslim scientists discovered gravity before westerns.
